I feel like for a while I would put my heart and soul into our relationship and hope she does the same. But I wouldn't quite be able to know what it was like to lose a loved one like she had,so it would be hard for me to relate. After a certain point, I don't think I would be able to waste my whole life hoping she loves me back though. I think eventually I would move on.
I agree with you Margaret. I think that I would try to understand the other person to my best abilities, but it would be VERY difficult! Eventually, if things didn't turn around, and it still wasn't working, I would decide to continue with my life and find new people.
I would definitely move on. I don't think that they even worked that well together to begin with and that their relationship as a whole was just kind of weird. There's plenty of other girls out there who would love Changez and he could be in a relationship where the love is mutual.
I think that Changez should try to continue to be a friend to Erica, because obviously she has some feelings for him and has become dependent on him in a way. But it isn't healthy for Changez to be in a love-relationship where the other person doesn't actually love him.
I completely agree with all of you! Not only is it unhealthy for Erica to stay in this kind of long term relationship, but it is also unhealthy for Changez! I don't think I could ever stay in a relationship were the other person isn't contributing. It would be too complicated and it would hurt to much. But I think Laura is very right when she says that they should stay friends. Their relationship has become to complicated for them to just never see each other again. They have to slowly get used to being apart.
Kyra brings up a good point that their relationship is very uneven, which is never a good thing. It's sort of like long distance relationships, which Changez and Erica would have had if she had lived and Changez moved back to Lahore, the only feeling you can ever have in a relationship like that is missing someone.
The uneveness makes the relationship unobtainable in my opinion. I think that if Changez's feelings were less strong, there could be a chance, but due to the fact that feelings aren't really "controlable" Changez can't change how he feels about Erica.
I agree Michaela! The fact that Changez is overwhelmed by his feelings for Erica and Erica is overwhelmed by her feelings for Chris, this mess of feelings makes their relationship unworkable. Which is why eventually the relationship between Erica and Changez ended. Without compromise and a balance a relationship can't work out for the long term.
